But before you proceed, it is important to understand the military-related guidelines that may apply.
Military Marriage Laws
There are no Ukrainian laws that restrict whom a service member can marry.
Ukrainian military personnel are free to marry anyone of their choice, including same-sex partners, as recognized under civil law.

Military Marriage Rules
Certain rules apply to specific groups within the military structure:

Cadets in Ukrainian military academies are not allowed to marry until they graduate into active service or leave the academy.

Outside of this group, there are no restrictions on whom or when Ukrainian soldiers may marry.
Fraternization Policies
The Ukrainian Armed Forces also have rules governing military fraternization.
These regulations generally discourage relationships between officers and enlisted personnel, including marriage.
However, several exceptions exist:

If two service members are already married and one later receives an officer’s commission, the marriage remains acceptable.
Personnel who need clarification on these policies may contact their unit’s legal advisory office.
Stationing of Spouses
There are additional rules concerning whether a soldier’s civilian spouse can live with them during duty assignments:

Spouses cannot accompany service members on deployments.

Certain duty posts—particularly high-risk or international locations—may not allow family members due to security concerns or lack of available family housing.

In such cases, troops receive “unaccompanied” posting orders, meaning they must serve alone at that assignment.
There are also regulations regarding who is eligible to receive a military ID card and military benefits.
To qualify for an ID card and benefits—including access to military-supported healthcare—a spouse must be legally married to the Ukrainian service member.
The Ukrainian military does not recognize common-law marriages or engagements for benefit purposes.
Please note that registering a spouse for military benefits requires a processing fee.
